What's wrong with the world? Part II

Last time I wrote under the same heading it was about that stupid idiot who proudly killed a fox for no reason (http://natsumividar.blogspot.com/2006/03/whats-wrong-with-world_22.html#links).

This time it's regarding an incident in Oslo a little while back. A man who was in the park with his family was beaten up after confronting another man (telling them to stop playing football near his family and kids). He was unconscious, and an ambulance was called. He was also bleeding significantly, and had hit his head on the asphalt as he landed. When the ambulance and police were present he was able to get up, and upon urinating in his pants, he open his fly to let it out, thereby possibly hitting the ambulance and/or one of the officers. The ambulance officers called him a "pig" and said "your ship has sailed", and left the scene without taking the man with them (to the bewilderment and angered surprise among passers-by).

In the end a taxi took him to the hospital, where they were finally able to treat him after a few hours waiting. Now, more than one week after, he is still in an induced coma and on life support, his brain has been severely damaged, and they have not been able to put him off life support just yet. His family has been adviced that he might not be the same man as he was before whence he is taken out of the coma.

That ambulance personnel chooses not to bring a clearly injured person to the hospital is unforgivable. On top of it all, the person who was injured was not white, and thus the negligence has been attributed to racism. In fact, three out of four Norwegians believe that a white man would have not been left behind by the ambulance. As if all of this wasn't bad enough, the hospital first were not willing to utter any apologies but stated that the personnel had acted in accordance with the guidelines. Many things have come to light since the case was first known, and more things will come to light in the near future. Now, let's just hope that Ali will get well and that negligence (racist or not) will not ruin him and his family.

PS. Ali's partner is a semi-famous singer, and is therefore quite resourceful. What bothers me to think of is that if she was just a "normal" woman, this case might not have reached the media and gotten all the publicity it has.
